Rivian Automotive Startup Takes on Tesla

Rivian Automotive Startup Takes on Tesla

The electric vehicle startup company, Rivian Automotive Inc. has raised new funds in order to scale and advance their company in the electric vehicle industry. With these new funds, Rivian Automotive hopes to launch their new electric vehicles, including the R1T (electric pickup truck), the R1S (electric SUV), and the Amazon delivery vehicles. Its vehicles feature cloud-based connectivity and all terrain capabilities.

Rivian Automotive, being an ambitious new company seeks to compete with giants in the electric vehicle industry, such as Tesla, Inc. with its plans for a new sport utility vehicle and truck. These plans, however, are met with a lot of competition since they trail behind Tesla’s release of their own cyber truck, which is scheduled to roll out at the end of this year. But the company is reaching for the top shelf as they plan to release vehicles for foreign markets and versions of vehicles with a higher mileage range on one charge and more towing capacity.

Modern Mouth Startup Creates 3D Education Platform

directive-for-LBI-taxpayers- 3D education platform

Getting a quality education is important for many people, especially for healthcare students. Education standards depend on the quality of learning material being used. As dental students themselves, Jules Mann and Cole Bender noticed a gap between current dental needs and the outdated learning material dental students were studying (such as 2D images). To bridge this gap, they developed Modern Mouth, a 3D dental education platform.

The platform is designed to be easy for professors to use and to be integrated into their existing lessons. It includes features like presentation software, moveable anatomical and scientific 3D models, and software consulting, so users can discover its full functionality. Modern Mouth has been an excellent virtual learning resource for students who are distance learning due to the pandemic. Modern Mouth hopes to expand their 3D library to more healthcare students, like nursing and dental hygiene.

In2Bones Announces New Biomaterial

diagnostics new biomaterial night-guard

Many of us take our abilities for granted. The ability to walk, to reach, to jump without pain or fear our bones will break. But there are many people who struggle with bone, ligament, and muscle deformities and, as a result, suffer from chronic pain. A leading manufacturer of implants for extremities, In2Bones Global, Inc. works to reduce pain and improve patient care. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, In2Bones continually creates unique solutions in the orthopedic field of medicine. Recently, they’ve announced their partnership with Invibo Limited to research, develop, and manufacture a new biomaterial for implants.

Invibo Limited’s PEEK-OPTIMA™ Ultra Reinforced (POUR) carbon fiber technology will be used in In2Bones’s implants for the lower extremities. The POUR material supports faster healing since it’s more similar to bone than other metal implants. The material is also more fatigue resistant than metal, meaning implant failure from overuse or fracture is reduced. Invibo Limited’s POUR material is also radiolucent (transparent to x-rays), meaning the radiation will pass through it, so doctors can better monitor the healing site without the implant in the way. Together, In2Bones and Invibo Limited seek to improve patient care by reducing pain and increasing motion.

Ohio Says Oh Hello to New Agriculture Developments

greenhouse food business

Supporting economic development is more important than ever, and yet harder than ever. Creating sustainable business networks that will attract consumer attention and support is a feat many businesses struggle to achieve, especially in 2020. But this is exactly what a new organization in Ohio is doing. The Centre for Food innovation @ Oberlin launched this month and is helping local food businesses all across the region.

In the past, issues in the agricultural business led to unemployment and empty buildings. The organization plans to solve problems around food shortages and attract attention to Ohio’s agricultural industry by utilizing those unused buildings to develop vertical hydroponic farming. This would allow them to utilize readily available space and support year-round farming, also expecting to create over 20,000 jobs in the state. Ohio food businesses wouldn’t have to import food from overseas and could even learn to grow it themselves through the organization.

NY Startup Takes Advantage of Vacant City Spaces

Blue office Building San Francisco rentable storage

Since many people now work from home, companies are finding that they no longer need a physical building to run their business. More and more office spaces are vacant and on the market for lease or sale. Along with these empty offices are retail spaces that have lost too much business to survive the pandemic, as well as parking lots that have been long abandoned. Neighbor.com is looking to take advantage of the opportunity to transform these vacancies into rentable storage spaces.

Neighbor.com started with the rental of people’s extra garage space or unused bedrooms for storage. Now that people are leaving cities and returning to their family homes or downsizing due to Covid-19, they are in need of a place to store their belongings until they can return to their lives in the city. That’s where Neighbor.com comes in, turning empty city space into safe storage solutions. While finding a tenant for a restaurant might be difficult right now, there are plenty of people looking to store their things.

Loon’s Balloon: Sky High Internet Source

puerto rico internet

Internet: it’s something most of us use everyday. And when there are outages we feel lost because we rely on it for almost everything. Even though the World Wide Web was only invented in the 1990s, it’s become so entrenched in our day-to-day lives. But there are still some rural areas that don’t have any access for various reasons, one being it’s too expensive. The internet can be sourced from different places, including radio towers, cell providers, satellites, and modems, which are all very expensive equipment and services. But there are companies working to provide innovative ways to reduce these costs, to ensure even remote and isolated areas can access this valuable resource.

Loon is one such company, who has developed a novel approach to solving this problem.. Their method: a high altitude balloon about 11 to 16 miles high to quite literally create a floating internet tower. The balloons are made of lightweight polythene and are filled with helium. Radio hot-spots and LTE networking equipment powered by solar panels are attached to each balloon which will float in the stratosphere for around six months before landing and being collected by Loon. The balloons are also capable of navigating the sky through instruction and by analyzing data collected about air currents and altitude to either maintain or change its current location. The balloons have now flown nearly 24 million miles, with one balloon providing internet to 35,000 people over 31,000 square miles.

North Carolina Startup Creates Software to Bring Farmers into the Digital Age

With the constant technological change that shapes how people live and consume products, digital business management tools can help businesses adapt and stay ahead of the game. But what about companies who don’t typically use technology? We don’t often think of farmers and tech going hand-in-hand, but that’s where Growers comes in. The company identified a gap in the market – with a huge array of equipment available to farmers, but no centralized system to streamline communication between key parties, unify operations and maximize productivity

Being raised on a farm gave its founder, Steven Valencsin, a good insight into the business needs of farmers. From this knowledge, Growers developed a number of software solutions, namely Growers Agronomy™ and Growers Rally™:

  • Agronomy helps farmers create plans using a forward approach, touching on 5 key aspects – creating crop plan, fertility program, planting program, modelling financial impact of those decisions and being able to make iterative changes in real time to the impact on your bottom line.
  • Rally combines farm planning with customer relationship management (CRM). Growers designed the platform to meet the needs of agriculture retailers and farmers by enabling them to converse digitally and utilize other planning tools within the platform, such as creating sales plans. The software is expected to be released in the summer of 2021.

Air Cleaners Inc. Pulls the Air Curtain on Pathogens

virus 1913183 1280 air curtain filtration

As we start heading back to the office, there is an increased need for clean indoor air to limit the spread of Covid-19 and other viruses. That’s why Air Cleaners Inc has developed a small, portable air filtration system to clean indoor air during the Covid crisis. The company was founded by experts in airflow who combined multiple technologies to create a top-of-the-line filtration system called the Clean Air Curtain.

The Clean Air Curtain separates indoor air spaces by isolating and removing pathogens in the air. It uses a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter, capable of removing very fine particles, and ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) with a high velocity exhaust. The Clean Air Curtain identifies and diverts pathogens away from an area and quickly captures and kills them through UVGI. Or, in simple terms, it combines filters and UV lights to not only refine the air but also destroy pollutants. Since many buildings don’t have a central HVAC system, the Clean Air Curtain is a small and portable filtration device that can be easily installed to supply clean air circulation in any area.
