West Virginia University’s Startup WV wants to align resources available at the university and encourage innovation in the state. The goal is to create new research and development opportunities, new jobs, and new solutions. Inspired by Virgin Hyperloop, an R&D startup, which chose West Virginia for its new certification facility site, WVU decided to try and expand R&D in the state.

Their mission involves responding to the economic needs of the state, driving momentum for creating intellectual properties and startups, and working with small businesses. Universities are uniquely positioned with resources and talent to help advance us into a technological society. Innovation is everywhere and with the help of Startup WV, West Virginia University hopes to bring these ideas to light.

Mullen Technologies, Inc., an electric vehicle startup, announces plans to expand into Mississippi. They intend to open a manufacturing facility with 50 new employees in the first year, and a projected increase to over 200 employees by the third year. They are also set to open a production facility in Memphis, TN.

Mullen is working to expand the options for green vehicles, inspired by their southern Californian roots. They are currently working with several global OEM partners, hoping to develop EVs that can seamlessly integrate into consumer’s lives. They have developed their unique SUV crossover EV engine – the Ottava 2p⁶. They are hoping that this step forward with production and manufacturing will help propel them into a state where they can design more EVs and help to make EVs a more common option across America.

Arcimoto Acquires TMW Tilting Technology

Arcimoto Acquires TMW Tilting Technology

Arcimoto has acquired Tilting Motor Works (TMW), bringing their 3-wheel conversion technology into their products aimed at the micro mobility industry. Arcimoto is most well known for their three-wheeled electric Fun Utility Vehicle (FUV). They want to catalyze the shift to a sustainable transportation system by moving away from oversized, overpriced, polluting vehicles. They developed the FUV as a right-sized, ultra-efficient electric vehicle as an alternative.

TMW developed their TRiO three-wheel conversion kits, which has specialized tilting technology. This tilting technology grabbed Arcimoto’s attention, by providing a unique riding experience. The tech allows a rider to lean naturally into turns, providing a two-wheel motorcycle riding experience on a three-wheeler. Additional stability also means riders won’t need to use their feet for balance at red lights.

Arcimoto has expanded to delivery and emergency/first responder models of the FUV as well as an open-top version known as the FUV Roadster. While Arcimoto has been steadily expanding, they hope this additional technology will inspire their R&D and expand their micromobility product range.
